Top o ‘the Lane Farm
With the 2022 breeding season approaching, we will be rolling out a series of breeders’ mating plans in the coming weeks. Today we have Jason Howard of Top o’ the Lane Farm, a new ranch in Shelby County, Kentucky.
“I moved back to Kentucky in 2019 after being in Florida and Colorado for a few years because I had always dreamed of breeding Purebreds, and I found the perfect ranch in Shelbyville and decided to continue,” says Howard. . “I am in the middle of Saddlebred country, but I want to develop this ranch into a place that even Lexington would be proud of. I just got a beauty [yearling] due to Lord Nelson out of Top Quest (Noble Quest {GB}), which I will probably be racing for, and I’m expecting someone else from her of Vekoma and Mor Spirit other than Indy Gold (AP Indy) in this year. I bought two [additional] mares in the January sale. “
REMOVED (m, 5, Elusive Quality – Dixie Doesn’t Sleep, by Dixie Union), to be bred as Law Tiz
I fell in love with this mare’s superior strength and physicality during the January sale (bought for $52,000), as well as the fact that she is a ‘Rising star TDN‘ in her first race at Gulfstream. She has a lot of talent according to coach Cherie DeVaux, but an ankle injury forced her off the track. She has impressive size and bones, and I want to find a cross similar to the one I did with Necessary quality and is taking her to Law Tizwho checks all the boxes for her with the career and talent he has shown on the track.
SPEIGHTSTOWN GAL (m, 5, Prince Cairo–Sightstown Lady, by Sightstown), bred with a known Agenda
This mare is one of the most elegant and athletic horses I’ve seen in the January sale this year (bought for $38,000), which I feel is the epitome of most horses. the Empire Maker line. She won second and third, both on the ground and on grass, and was in group five of her seven races at Belmont and Saratoga. She has the range and legs that will benefit the Known Agenda, a stallion that I am delighted with and feel will be a star in the profession if he can pull off a 4 campaign five years old. He’s built strong, well balanced, and perfectly priced as usual by Spendthrift.
Tell us with whom you are mating your mares in 2022 and why. We will print a selection of your responses in TDN in the coming weeks. Please send details to: [email protected]
