Truecaller on Thursday launched version 12 of its caller ID app with a list of new features. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of a video caller ID that allows users to set a short video that plays automatically when they call friends and family. Truecaller 12 also comes with a redesigned interface that brings separate tabs for calls and SMS messages. Truecaller also integrates a call recording feature to record incoming and outgoing calls. The Truecaller update also brings Ghost Call and Call An Notification features to premium users.
With Video Caller ID, you can set a short video to play automatically when you call your contacts. You can record a video for caller ID or choose from four pre-loaded templates. You’ll also start seeing video caller IDs from your contacts in your contacts and verified work calls.
You can manage your video caller ID and whether you want to get video caller ID from businesses and contacts by going to Setting > Caller ID newest word Truecaller application. Notably, the video you set as your caller ID will be stored in the Truecaller cloud.

The updated Truecaller app also brings a streamlined interface where you’ll have separate tabs for calls and SMS messages. This is unlike the existing interface, where you have a Home shortcut for accessing calls and Truecaller for SMS.
With separate tabs, you can now access all your SMS, Truecaller Group Chats and live chats with a single tap, the Sweden-based company said in a press release. .
Truecaller also says Truecaller for SMS has more than 15 users.
The new Truecaller update also brings call recording, which is a first introduce for Premium users and recently released for beta testing. It’s currently available to all Truecaller users – including paid and free ones – who have phones running on Android 5.1 or later.
Calls recorded with Truecaller are stored locally on the device’s memory and can be shared with others via email or using any messaging service. Call recording is available as an option and needs to be enabled manually from the latest Truecaller app. Furthermore, users can record voice calls from the full-screen Caller ID interface or the app’s pop-up window.
Truecaller also said in its release that callers will not be prompted with a notification about whether their call was recorded using the app.
In addition to the new features for all users, Truecaller has enhanced the unique user experience for its premium subscribers by bringing the Ghost Call and Call An Announcement features. Ghost Call allows users to pretend to have received a call from their contacts.
You can set any name, number, or photo to appear as if you were receiving a call from that person using the Ghost Call feature. You can also select a contact from your phonebook that you want to show as the caller on your phone. Furthermore, you can schedule a Ghost Call to appear on your phone at a later time.

Truecaller says that the Ghost Call feature is intended to help people get out of difficult situations and prank friends harmlessly.
The second feature for paid Truecaller users is the Call Notifications feature that will allow the app to read the caller ID aloud when a call comes in. It will work for both saved contacts and numbers identified by Truecaller’s caller ID database. The feature will also be accessible for both Regular Voice calls and Truecaller ID Voice calls. Users can also enable Call notifications when wearing the headset.
Notably, both Ghost Call and Call An Notification features will be exclusive to Premium and Gold users only. While Truecaller Premium is available for Rs. 529 a year or Rs. 179 for three months, Gold membership at Rs. 2,500 a year.
Truecaller says that new features will be rolled out gradually to all Android users in India in the coming weeks and some more countries coming soon. Some features are already available for access in beta version. However, there is no word on when we might see them on iOS version of Truecaller.
Earlier this week, Truecaller revealed that it has 300 million monthly active users globally, with 73% of users in India alone.
