TV network splits online after calling classic Indie game Sega
A British media group, Sky, just created a complete ass of myself on twitter, after trying to hang wiv da cool kidz while promoting a new partnership with David Beckham’s eSports company, Guild. Ask for followers of [checks notes] technical support account to tweet screenshot of “their favorite childhood #IndieGame”, they suggest starting with a photo of…The Beast Is Transformed. That infamous indie game was released by Sega in 1988.
The network of TV channels and broadband providers previously owned by Murdoch now belongs to Comcast, and it seems the company platform has somewhat skewed their vision of independence. The replies to the tweet are happy to suggest alternative childhood indie favorites, like Halo, Super Mario 64and Skyrim.
Others have helpful suggestions Dune II, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfareand one person dug up a confusing title called Tetris.
The support account, in the last few minutes (about three hours after posting the tweet) started responding to sarcastic replies with objections they mean “#RETROGAMES”. But it was too late for that.
I also ventured to make a suggestion.
It’s not clear why the support account is the source of this silliness, but they’re currently frantically trying to figure out how to explain to customers why their internet might be down. It was a very special situation they were in. And now we’re making it worse for them by posting their mistake on an international site that is widely read.
Don’t feel bad for them. You will see how much they charge for gloat TV and internet. Well, just imagine Comcast fees and servicesand you’ve come all the way there.
To their credit, they have yet to delete the tweet. And, you know, I heard about Guilds for the first time now, so maybe something is working?
