Via Jim Calfa: Tyson Fury took to social media on Tuesday to give Anthony Joshua the keys to defeating Oleksandr Usyk by attacking him with a lengthy salvo.
The fundamental problem with Fury’s advice is that it would require Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) to be stationary, fixed in the middle of the ring or against the rope, for Joshua to execute his body shots.
Given Usyk’s mobility, Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) doesn’t really heed Fury’s advice as it would be useful against a different type of fighter.
You can’t blame Fury for wanting to give Joshua the point, as he desperately needs him to win to get to their big payday fight later this year. If Usyk wins, there won’t be much money for Fury to fight him, and he will likely lose.
“Usyk had everything. You can rock this week, smash and grab and win all these world heavyweight titles. Eddie Hearn said to Ring Magazine’s belt, ” UK Boxing.
“Come to this feeling as a challenger. Be friendly and talk to people, but smash and take your time. For years it was AJ’s roadshow. Sold out Wembley, and it doesn’t matter where he fights.
“Now, come as party B, below. People are writing to you. So if you could do this how big would it be if you could win this war? It will be huge. One of the greatest British battles of all time.
“History, that’s what he’s here to do. I’m totally screwed right now. People say, ‘You have to be more aggressive.’ Yes, he does, but he has to be smart.
“The crux of this fight, in my opinion, is that once the sixth ring rings, this guy [Usyk] had to get out there either damaged or in a place where he wished he would never want to go back again.
“You let this guy catch on; he may be invincible. If you let this guy suck your blood or make you do things you’ve never done before, you won’t be able to win this war.
“You have to hit him really hard in the body, shoulder, neck and you have to do damage to him,” Hearn said of what Joshua had to do on Saturday.
