Ukraine, Russia agree to a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians
Kyiv:
Negotiators on both sides said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to create a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians on Thursday, in the second round of talks since Moscow’s invasion last week, negotiators of both sides said.
“The second round of negotiations has ended. Unfortunately, Ukraine has not yet got the necessary results. Only decisions on the organization of humanitarian corridors have been made,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said on Twitter.
Talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials took place on the Polish-Belarusian border on the eighth day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Russian negotiators confirmed that both sides had agreed to create an exit for civilians.
“The main question that we decided today is the question of saving lives, civilians, those who are in the area of military conflict,” said Russia’s chief negotiator and former Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky. know.
“Russia urges civilians in this situation, if military actions continue, to use these humanitarian corridors,” he said.
Another Russian negotiator, nationalist lawmaker Leonid Slutsky, said the deals would be “implemented in the near future”.
Ukraine says at least 350 civilians have been killed since President Vladimir Putin launched an attack on Ukraine last week.
Moscow claims they are not targeting civilian areas, despite other evidence.
