Volkswagen Touareg facelift 2024 caught
The Volkswagen Touareg The flagship SUV’s mid-life update has been caught once again, with minimal camouflage, ahead of its expected launch in 2023.
Our spy photographers captured three touareg prototype during cold weather testing in the snow. One appears to be a plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV), while the other two appear to be the regular entry-level version.
Like some of the recently discovered Volkswagen prototypes, these Touaregs were plastered with fake sheets and tape to make them resemble the current model.
This camouflage is most noticeable near the headlights, grille and taillights. The front bumper also seems to be a little different.
It’s unclear about these prototypes, but it’s possible Volkswagen will add a new LED light bar at the front end. This is a design feature filtered down to a number of Volkswagen models, including T-shirt.
We also expect updates to signature LED headlights and taillights as well as some new wheel options.
As for the rest of this midlife update? It’s less clear what will change.
The Volkswagen Touareg lineup is already offered with a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, but it is possible Volkswagen will add mild hybrid technology to the pure internal combustion engine.
involve Audi Q7 already has a wide range of mild hybrid engines.
Inside, the Touareg has fitted a high-tech cabin. It is likely that the car will get an updated version of the 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless CarPlay could also be an addition.

“We will probably wait for the updated version, as that would make more sense than waiting for a small number of updated models first.”
While a VW spokesperson said a 2023 launch of the Touareg R is still planned, it’s likely the updated model won’t arrive in Australia until 2024.
Volkswagen has confirmed it will be the only plug-in hybrid model it will launch over the next 18 months, with PHEV versions of the Golf and Tiguan won’t be here until the second half of 2024 at the earliest.
