SARATOGA SPRINGS, winner of NY’s GI Preakness S.- Klaravich Stables Vote early (Gunman) was transported from Belmont Park to Saratoga Racecourse on Sunday and will run in the GII Jim Dandy on July 30.
Coach Chad Brown announces that Early Voting will be conducted in Jim Dandy with stable friend Zandon (Start up), instead of facing another stable, undefeated friend Jack Christopher (Munnings) in GI Haskell S. July 23. Brown is targeting all three 3-year-old ponies that won his graded bets for Saratoga’s signature race, GI worth $1.25 million Runhappy Travers S. August 27. He waited until after work on Saturday’s Early Vote at Belmont Park before deciding if the pony would go to Monmouth Park with Jack Christopher in a contest high school or go to Saratoga and have a race on the track before Travers history.
“Jack Christopher looks great this morning, he looks ready to go to Haskell and at the end of the day I’ll be running two horses in one race and another,” Brown said. “I just want to run one in Haskell and I just don’t see the benefit of putting Early Voting in a larger field than a really fast horse, what it can do for him after five weeks from Travers .”
At Jim Dandy, in decades of preparing for the local Travers, Jeff Drown’s Zandon will start for the first time since finishing third in the May 7 GI Kentucky Derby. He won the GI Toyota Blue Grass S April 29.
Early voting gave Brown his second win in the race for the Triple Crown at Preakness on May 21. In 2017, Brown brought back Preakness Cloud Computing winner Jim Dandy.
Jack Christopher, co-owner of Jim Bakke, Gerald Ibister, Coolmore Stud and Peter Brant, extended his record to 4-0 with a 10-time win in the seven-hair GI Woody Stephens match on June 11. The nine-feathered Haskell will be his first race beyond a mile and his first about two turns.
