‘We’re ready to go straight into’ it
Via Jack Tiernan: Eddie Hearn says he’s ready to make the next Demetrius Andrade vs David Benavidez fight. Hearn is reacting to the news of Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs) saying he wants to take on Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) in his next game after he’s rallied to 168.
Benavidez vs Andrade will be a HUGE matchup with big ramifications for the 168 lb.
If undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez intends to be in super-middleweight, he will have to face Benavidez winner Andrade, as there will be too much pressure on him.
Currently, Benavidez has a fight against David Lemieux in April for the interim WBC super-middleweight title. As for Andrade, 33 years old, he will fight #1 Zach Parker for the next interim 168-lb WBC title.
Interestingly, Hearn is ready to forget about Parker’s fight with former two-division world champion ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade and go straight to the Benavidez fight instead.
It made more sense for Andrade to fight Benavidez right away than to fight Parker, seeing that it would cause him to immediately argue about fighting Canelo.
Beating Parker DOESN’T make Andrade subject to Canelo’s WBO title as their fight will be for the provisional 168lb title. It is NOT a removal.
Hearn wants to fight Andrade against Benavidez for the WBC/WBO title, with the winner being the undisputed 168-lb champion Canelo Alvarez.
“We love the Benavidez fight. Battle route [Zach] Parker and then fight Benavidez,” Hearn said iFL TV. “We are ready to go straight into a fight with Benavidez right now.
“So if he [Benavidez] enjoyed that fight, I’m happy to discuss and finish it,” Hearn continued.
It seems that Hearn doesn’t want to mess around and waste time. Andrade, 33, isn’t forever in big fights after being outplayed by Canelo, Gennadiy Golovkin and Jermall Charlo for years.
If Benavidez is really serious about wanting to fight Andrade, the shiny male god, Hearn is ready to let that happen in 2022.
Benavidez needs to take care of former IBF middleweight champion Lemieux next in their fight in April, and then Hearn could start making Benavidez-Andrade bouts in June or July. Benavidez will have to face him. face the toughest opponent of his career facing Andrade, and it will be interesting to see how well he does.
“He is a great fighter. Why not make it happen? I’m tired of talking back and forth with boxers who don’t want to fight,” David Benavidez told Fighthype of his wanting to fight Demetrius Andrade at super-middleweight.
