I should probably say something a little more sensational. , well: Uncharted is an industry-defining series that is incredibly unique and has been a huge hit for me, and we deserve more than that.
To be fair, Uncharted doesn’t appeal to everyone. Some abbreviate the series as a piece of low-brows pop art. If you scroll down a Google search, it doesn’t take long before you encounter criticism that claims Uncharted is overrated. And to be fair, action blockbuster Naughty Dog has a few weak points. Its gunfights evolve over and over. The climbs are a bit simple because everything is painted the same color, so you know exactly where to go. And the narratives are packed with more jarring details than a Hollywood movie.
Now that that’s out of our system, let’s find out why Uncharted is totally the rule. Undiscovered games are essentially popcorn games in an interactive form. That’s one of the reasons why they go down so easily. But creating a game that operates at a high level and attracts a large audience is difficult, making the appeal of the series even more impressive. But I don’t need to protect Uncharted. It’s okay if you don’t love. Let me tell you why I do.
One of the things I love most about Uncharted is its characters. If you watch any game with a highly rated story, you’ll see that what fans really love is a charming cast. Take a look at Mass Effect or Red Dead Redemption or Eidos-Montréal’s recent Guardians of the Galaxy, and you’ll discover the same thing. If you break those stories down into a linear sequence of events, you can see that they seem pretty basic and full of meaning. However, those games all have one thing in common: they’re filled with incredibly fun and fulfilling characters. The reason we fell in love with video game stories in the first place is because we first fell in love with the personalities that lived in those worlds.
And Uncharted has some of the best characters in the business. Sully is a cigar addict with an adventurous past, who I really want to be my dad. Chloe Frazer is a sharp-eyed heroine with a snappy morality who is so persuasive she deserves hers. own spinoff adventure. Meanwhile, Sam Drake is a character that shouldn’t be. Throughout the three games, Nate’s brother is never mentioned; This character should feel completely out of place. Furthermore, Sam is a manipulative, lying thief. However, we love him.
I haven’t even talked about the two most important characters of Uncharted: Nate and Elena. When we first encounter Elena at the beginning of the first Uncharted, she’s a TV journalist caught up in one of Nate’s wild Indiana Jonesesque adventures. She seems like a traditional flavored romance of the week. But as the series progressed, so did her relationship with Nate. The two got married…and then broke up. But something kept pulling them together.
And that’s one of the things I respected when Uncharted took on Nate and Elena’s relationship. Naughty Dog doesn’t shy away from the challenges of marriage and what it takes to stay committed to another person. Most love stories in the game end when the two main characters connect. We rarely get to see what happens after the first kiss. But a real long-term relationship takes work and sacrifice, and the romance doesn’t have to end. In fact, a committed relationship is often richer and more meaningful than young passionate ones. Long-term committed relationships are challenging, but they can also be beautiful.
I hope I don’t sound like an old man waving his finger and saying, “When are you guys getting married?” Everyone’s situation is different. But that’s what I love about Uncharted and its characters. It offers far-fetched stories full of authentic human moments. Yes, it builds on jokes pioneered by Indiana Jones and other adventure series, but it takes those building blocks and finds its own formula and tries to say something right in the process. this program.
