With new entrants, Mamata Banerjee finds a foothold in Bihar, Haryana
Kolkata:
In expansion mode since it resisted the BJP attack in the April-May Bengali Assembly elections, today’s Trinamool Congress has diverged in its acquisition of political and practical leaders. present three new additions to the party from around the country – mostly at the expense of the Congress. With these additions, the party has also signaled that it is ready to move forward to 2024.
Kirti Azad, a former Team India pitcher who changed teams from BJP to the Games in 2019, is now registered with Mamta Banerjee. So does Ashok Tanwar, formerly an assistant to Rahul Gandhi, who proved his mettle as head of Parliament in Haryana until his defeat to the top brass in the state.
Pawan Verma, Rajya Sabha MP of Janata Dal United from Bihar, who has no relation to party chief and Minister Nitish Kumar, also participated in Trinamool Congress today.
Mr Verma was expelled by the JDU in January 2020 – at the same time as the party’s National Vice President Prashant Kishor, who is now a full-time election strategist pushing the Trinamool Congress forward to the national level.
Parliament Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has criticized the latest congressional deserters as “opportunists” and Trinamool Parliament is once again the BJP’s “Troyan Horse” working to damage the country’s chances. a large-scale national opposition front against the BJP.
“What is their electoral arithmetic? 63% of India did not vote for the BJP in 2019. 20% voted for Congress. Trinamool received only 4% of the vote. What do they hope to achieve? without Congress,” he said.
Today’s National Assembly participants entering Trinamool followed in the footsteps of late president Pranab Mukherjee Abhijit Mukherjee’s son, Sushmita Dev – former MP from Silchar and daughter of late MP Santosh Mohan Dev – and Luizinho Faleiro , former Goa Minister .
With every acquisition, Trinamool has expanded its reach beyond West Bengal, which is Mamta Banerjee’s much-anticipated political plan – to join the BJP in the 2024 general election.
Ashok Tanwar gave Trinamool a foothold in Haryana, a state that played a key role in farmers’ demands for the withdrawal of three of the Center’s agricultural laws.
With Kirti Azad and Pawan Verma, the Trinamool Congress has now set foot on the door of Bihar, Bengal’s neighbour.
As far as the Trinamool Congress is concerned, any new political takeover is fluff. But political analysts are wondering if, after these acquisitions, there will be a meeting between Sonia Gandhi with Mamata Banerjee during the current Delhi visit by the Chief of Bengal.
They also question Trinamool’s “ekla chalo” (let’s go) policy of unifying the opposition ahead of the 2024 national elections.
