Purebred Winchell’ disarm (gunman) completed her key prep steps for Saturday’s GI Kentucky Derby with a half-mile run at: 49.20 (15/30) at Churchill Downs Monday.
With exercise racer Wilson Fabian in the saddle, Disarm was escorted to the track by assistant coach Scott Blasi on a pony, while trainer Steve Asmussen followed closely behind on another.
Disarm completed an opening quarter mile of: 25 and was not required to gallop over the rope, which is typical in Asmussen works less than a week after the race.
“We were late in his training for the Road to the Kentucky Derby but he responded well to each task we asked him to complete,” Asmussen said.
Disarm is second behind Kingsbarns (Uncle Mo) in the GII Louisiana Derby on March 25 before securing his spot at the starting gate of the Derby in a bid for third place in the GII Stonestreet Lexington S. April 15. He made it five. the shot lasted in a 1:00.00 bullet at Churchill last Wednesday.
