Playing World of Warcraft gives players a lot of options and quests, which in theory is great. However, over the many expansions of the game, the formula sometimes doesn’t work. Some people prefer to focus entirely on their main character development, keeping a select character up to date with all current content. Others prefer to keep the whole set of characters they can play. Those players will probably be satisfied with the approach Blizzard is working on the next expansion, Dragonflight. According to game director Ion Hazzikostas, almost all progress made on Dragon Isles will be counted on the entire account.
Hazzikostas and the main story Steve Danuser answered fan questions about the upcoming expansion in the Twitter space this Wednesday. One of the earliest answers regarding account-wide progress for systems like reputation, faction, and upcoming dragon riding skill. Hazzikostas said “almost anything” will extend to any alts a player has in their account, with the exception of individual quest rewards and other things that represent the character’s personal journey. In addition, some features will be carried over from Shadowlands. For example, once a character has completed the Dragon Isles narrative, people will choose whether they want to play through the same linear campaign or skip straight through the end-game activities to gain experience.
This is exciting news for people with a lot of alts, because it means ignoring a lot of the problems that get in the way. Shadowlands expanded very early. Players complain about having to crush the Renown, Conduits, and Covenant campaigns to get all the new goodies. This system will allow players to give up a character and try something new. Players can switch to a trial of Dracthyr Evoker later in the expansion with no penalty or introduce a new character class to their liking.
