Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho Corporation, has some suggestions for Anand Mahindra after trying out the Mahindra Treo electric car. In a series of tweets shared this morning, Mr Vembu revealed that he received the electric tricycle over the weekend and enjoyed driving it. Hailing it as a “practical commuter vehicle” – one capable of reaching speeds of 55 km/h and a range of 125 km when fully charged – Zoho’s CEO says he’s got some proposal to Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra, regarding electric cars.
“This electric autopilot and the price (door-to-door price under 3.5 lakhs) is a very affordable family car,” he wrote, adding that the price could fall even further as production volume increased.
He commends the design of the autorickshaw, saying it makes for a very cool vehicle – a design that evokes interesting questions when driving in rural areas. Mr. Vembu moved to Mathalamparai, a village near Tenkasi in the picturesque Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, at the end of 2019. In his Twitter stream, he shared a picture of himself driving an electric car around the village.
“Design can make this a really cool car. When I drive on country roads, people ask where I should buy,” he wrote.

Sridhar Vembu also asked Mr. Mahindra to provide more colors and designs as well as family-friendly options.
“Let’s come up with a compelling marketing campaign to popularize these low-cost electric vehicles,” he suggested, adding that he saw huge potential in the electric vehicle sector. In the comments, Mr Vembu even came up with a marketing idea himself, writing that the open car could be marketed as an “affordable convertible”.

His suggestions have received thousands of ‘likes’ and reactions on the microblogging platform. Anand Mahindra, an active Twitter user, has yet to reply to them.
Mahindra Treo is an electric tricycle designed and developed in India. Last year, it became the first electric tricycle to surpass 5,000 sales in India.
