2023 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore close-up
Lightning happened again, with Maserati Electric teasing coming soon Folgore its version GranTurismo again before the 2023 launch.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares was given the first drive of Folgore – Italian for lightning – at the 2022 Formula E Rome ‘E-Prix’.
The prototype is finished in a bright blue wrap and with lots of badges and vents covered, but little is left to the imagination.
Automatic log reports from Maserati CEO Davide Grasso that the electric grand tourer will use three electric motors – one up front and two at the rear – creating a total system power of more than 895kW of power.
It will also feature 800V electrical architecture and Formula E-derived technology.
Maserati will also offer an internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the GranTurismo, said to use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 version of the car. MC20 supercar. In the MC20, this engine produces 463kW and 730Nm.

A drop-top GranCabrio Variations have also been confirmed.
While the electric powertrain may be a significant change for the Maserati, the GranTurismo’s styling is not.
The prototype is shaped like a classic grand tourer like the old GranTurismo, with a long, sculpted bonnet and short rear overhang.
This new GranTurismo will replace the now-defunct model, which was revealed at the 2007 Geneva motor show. The defunct GranCabrio was revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show.
Also at Formula E 2022, Rome E-Prix is an all-electric car Maserati Grecale Folgore with the same Trident wrap as the prototype GranTurismo Folgore and wheels with the same two-tone design.
Maserati has previously confirmed the Grecale Folgore will have a 400V electrical system, a 105kWh battery and “800Nm at most”. It will launch in late 2022 before going on sale globally in 2023.
The brand recently announced it use only electricity by 2030 and there will be at least one all-electric variant of every model in the lineup by 2025.
The Italian automaker will also launch all-new generations of the Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV and both will be available with electric vehicle (EV) drive.
The MC20 supercar will also have an EV version.
Maserati is far from being the first in the vast Stellantis brand portfolio to announce an internal combustion engine-powered vehicle deadline.
Abarth, DS and Lancia will become EV-only in 2024, Alfa Romeo will quit ICE in 2027and outside of China Opel/Vauxhall will only sell electric vehicles by 2028.
