Calvin & Hobbes creator returns with illustrated book “for adults”
Bill Watterson, cartoonist best known for his iconic Calvin and Hobbes comicgot out of retirement for a new book.
titled mysteries, the official synopsis on the Simon and Schuster website describes the illustrated book as an “adult parable” that takes place in a kingdom where disasters are constant. The king of the kingdom sent a squad of knights to investigate, but years later only one returned. mysteries is a collaboration between Watterson and cartoonist John Kascht.
Watterson draws and writes Calvin and Hobbes from 1985 to 1995. The manga follows a naughty and precocious boy named Calvin and his stuffed tiger friend Hobbes. Watterson often stays out of the public eye, refusing to autograph or license his characters. But in 2010, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary Final Calvin and Hobbes undressed, he talked to Plain agent about his decision to end the film, he said: “At the end of ten years, I said almost everything I went there to say. It’s always better to leave the party early.”
While Watterson has done a few comics and illustrations once since Calvin and Hobbes ended – most notably Stephen Pastis’ three-day takeover Pearl Before Pigs in 2014 – mysteries marks his first major project since.
