Celebrity chef Gurpareet Bains, who created ‘world’s healthiest meal’ has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of superfood recipes
From making “the world’s healthiest meal” to writing the groundbreaking recipe book, Indian Superfood, Gurpareet Bains has built a reputation that only a few chefs can surpass. The famous Indian-British chef calls himself “bad food” while transforming superfoods into groundbreaking meals for all. Gurpareet, the co-founder of Vedge Snacks, passed away last week at the age of 43, according to a PTI report. The chef who lived in Enfield, London, passed away from a heart attack last Thursday. His marketing agency, Palamedes PR, announced the news on Friday on Twitter.
Palamedes PR’s tweet read “We are completely traumatized by the tragic passing of Gurpareet Bains” and went on to add that Bains “was a dear friend and longtime customer”.

Gurpareet Bains’ family has publicly expressed their grief. As reported by the Daily Mail, they said, “He means a lot to a lot of people. We are deeply saddened by his passing, and cannot express in words how much he will be missed. He will forever be in our hearts.”

With his recipes, Gurpareet Bains takes the global trend in superfoods to a level of conscious implementation. He first gained international recognition in 2009 when he claimed to have created “the healthiest meal in the world”. According to his website, the meal consisted of a simple chicken curry, goji berry bread, and blueberries. This dish is rich in antioxidants equivalent to 23 bunches of grapes.
The very next year, he released his first recipe book, Indian Superfood, became a #1 bestseller. In 2012, Gurpareet Bains published his second recipe book, Superspices of India. Two years later, he published his third recipe book, Superfood diet.

While his books popularized his culinary concepts of Indian spices and superfoods among the masses, he began to be noticed by fellow chefs only after 2011. That year, he was named Chef of the Year at the inaugural British Curry Awards. The following year, he received more awards. The Experimental Foods Association has officially recognized his Sleepless-No-Eating Curry recipe as a British icon. The Huffington Post mentioned Indian Superspices in their list of the top 50 cookbooks of the year.
Gurpareet Bains has mastered the art of preparing antioxidant-rich foods with vegetables, fruits, low-fat proteins, nuts and spices. During the 2020 lockdown, he created what he calls “the world’s healthiest biscuits” containing fruits and vegetables. His most notable dishes include hangover cocktails, flu curries, insomnia curries, “world’s healthiest Christmas dinner” and “healthy fish and chips” strongest in the world”.
