China: The moment the earthquake hit a classroom in Sichuan
Images released by China’s state broadcaster CCTV captured the moment a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck a school in southwestern China’s Sichuan province.
Dozens of panicked students were seen ducking under their desks before quickly running out of the classroom with their hands overhead.
The China Earthquake Network Center said the first quake, in Ya’an’s Lushan county, struck at a depth of 17 kilometers.
A second quake followed, with a magnitude of 4.5, killing at least four people and injuring 14 others.
Sichuan is an earthquake-prone area. The latest disaster to come to mind is the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Wenchuan county in northwestern Sichuan in 2008.
