Classic Ford Mustang celebrates its 60th birthday
The Ford Mustang has been given a classic makeover to honor the nameplate's 60th year of production.
Unveiled overnight, six decades after the Mustang was revealed at the 1964 World's Fair in New York, the Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary package pays homage to the 1965 pony car with numerous exterior and interior improvements. interior.
Unfortunately for local fans, none of the production 1965 models are expected to come to Australia, and Ford's Down Under division has ruled out a local launch.
The 60th Anniversary package is available only on Mustang GT Premium models, as coupe or convertible.
It adds 60th Anniversary badging on the front wheel arches and trunk lid, 20-inch dark gray gravity wheels with machined faces and Vermillion red center caps, optional side graphics, mesh grille with side air intakes and smoked headlights.
Three exterior colors are available: Wimbledon White (with body-colored mirror caps), Race Red (with Iconic silver mirror caps) and Air Blue (with chrome mirror caps).
Inside, there's a numbered 60th anniversary plaque on the dashboard, while a choice of Space Gray, Carmine Red or Black Onyx colors are available for the cabin.
The Mustang GT's 5.0-litre V8 engine is unchanged, continuing to produce up to 362kW and 567Nm in US-supplied models with active exhaust, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or manual transmission. 10-speed automatic.
There will also be a broader update to the Mustang line, with the digital instrument cluster receiving gauges based on the 1967-68 pony car model.
This will be available via an over-the-air software update for cars already on sale, although Ford Australia is yet to confirm whether we'll see it when the car lands here.
