Dmitry Bivol wants to rematch Canelo Alvarez at 175, not 168
Via Allan Fox: Dmitry Bivol has given up on potentially moving down to 168 for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez if the Mexican star chooses to go that route.
WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) said he would love to take on Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) back at 175 in the second set.
It’s understandable why Bivol would want a rematch at 175 instead of 168, as it would be hard for his body to lose weight to challenge Canelo for the undisputed title of super middleweight.
When it’s time for Bivol to return to the 175-lb division to challenge for the undisputed championship against the winner of a fight between Arthur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr., he may not be at 100% due to the challenge. which he put his body past down to 168 for the rematch with Canelo.
If Canelo is as great as his boxing fans believe, he will likely rematch Bivol at 175, especially with the closest scoreline last time out.
With all three Nevada referees scoring the same at 115-113, 115-113 and 115-113 for the Canelo-Bivol match earlier this month on May 7, there’s no reason for Canelo to need an extra advantage. by emphasizing the rematch takes place at 168.
If Canelo throw some stabs next time he’ll have a higher chance of winning the rematch, and it won’t need to drain Bivol by bringing him down to 168 and maybe one more combat weaken rehydration terms into the contract to better guarantee his victory.
“If I beat Canelo again, it will be like i’m in the same place, same belt, same victory. I prefer to fight for other belts,” said Dmitry Bivol in one Press Conference about the rematch against Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo has yet to say anything about activating the rematch clause, and you have to think that if he doesn’t activate it early next month in June, that means he has decided not to rematch with Bivol anymore. .
With Canelo’s next match date set for September 17, he can’t wait to pick his next opponent. It wouldn’t be fair for Canelo to have to wait until July or August to activate the rematch clause.
“In the rematch, I could see some things work for me, and I took advantage of that and used a lot more to make the fight work in my favor,” Bivol said of whether he could win. Believe that you can beat Canelo in the rematch.
“The fight against Gilberto Ramirez is also an interesting fight for me, but it won’t be the first because I want to fight for the title. [at 175]”Bivol said.
“Probably, he came in second because he talked about me many times, and he mentioned me many times. He fought a lot. He has a good record, and I also want to fight him if I can’t win the title,” said Bivol.
