Fan Art appears in Destiny Cutscene, Bungie will ‘compensate’ the artist
Last week, Bungie blew the doors off her convoluted and mysterious lore by releasing a cutscene that explains exactly what The Traveler—that big white moon at the heart of the series’ plot—is, and where it comes from.
Because Destiny The fans must have been extremely pleased, but that’s something else for artist Julian Faylona, aka ELEMENTJ21who noticed that part of the official video looks like a part of their own Destiny fanart that they First published online in 2020.
“I just realized that Bungie drew inspiration from my work for this week’s cutscene,” they tweeted last week. “I was definitely surprised when I saw that cutscene.” As you can see below, the similarities between Faylona’s work (green, right) and the art in Bungie’s trailer (black, left) show that the word “inspiration” is at work. used very generously:
In response, Bungie said computer gamer over the weekend that they are “planning to compensate and credit them for their work.”
“We discovered that an outside vendor who helped create this cutscene mistakenly used this artwork as a reference, claiming it was official Bungie artwork. We are currently waiting for the artist’s response to take necessary measures to remedy this situation.”
While these “fan art company” stories can often be harsh — and rightly so, they are often outright theft.—in this particular case, Faylona was surprisingly cold about the whole thing.
“Honestly, I was really excited and happy that the work I did two years ago—which even back then, I fully admit was based on the Destiny franchise—made it into the cutscene. ,” they told computer gamer in a statement. “It was completely unexpected and took me completely by surprise. So much so that I want to scream about it.
