Freddie Roach discusses Canelo Vs. Golovkin III fighting
Via Allan Fox: Legendary trainer Freddie Roach is excited to see Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin join the main event this Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Roach feels that 40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) has a good shot to win despite his advanced age.
Golovkin’s strength is what gives him a good chance to undo his sadness against the 32-year-old Canelo.
Even as Golovkin is older, he is still capable of surpassing Canelo, which is what coach Johnathon Banks wants him to do.
Canelo was overworked by his eventual opponent Dmitry Bivol and resulted in a 12th round loss by unanimous decision last May. If Golovkin can repeat what Bivol did, he could win, as long as he doesn’t get hit as much as the last time he fought Canelo in 2018.
Roach’s Gabe Rosado will take on Ali Akhmedov in a 10-round match on Canelo vs. Golovkin III.
“The main event will be great. This is their third time together and the first two are fun to watch,” Freddie Roach told Fighthype about Saturday’s trilogy between Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.
“He’s fighting again, GGG. Canelo is a tough guy. He has a lot of muscle, it seems like new muscle. I’m not sure where he got those muscles from. I can go to that store. Hopefully, it’s all natural. It will be a great fight
“Youth and speed are great, but it’s probably the power that overwhelms you. Maybe that’s the better thing to have in there. In the first two matches, they fought against each other. That’s why I’m really excited to join this match.
“The main event will be an interesting battle to watch. Regardless it will be a good battle, and will be interesting to watch. That’s why I’m happy Gabe [Rosado] brought me in.
“Somewhat. Big warriors, big names. The crowd will be huge. This is what combat is all about. Not the Cinderella guys fighting.
“The two of you fight very well. GGG, I am a very good friend of mine. He came to my gym to see Manny Pacquiao. Where in the world does a world champion go to the gym to meet another fighter?
“They met and took pictures. He was really happy to do that act as a world champion going to meet a rising boxer at the time named Manny Pacquiao. Not everyone knew him at that time. He made him a little bit more famous,” said Roach.
