While the 3-year-old painting was centered primarily in New York on Saturday with GI Belmont S. and GI Woody Stephens S., hopper (Declaration of War) threw his hat into the ring from the other shore with the victory in favor of the confirmed GIII S. at Santa Anita. It was a short field, but the correct horses were all welcome from Sean McCarthy’s stable while the three were filled by three of Bob Baffert’s former students.
When the stall’s door flew, Hopper immediately hugged it to the front from a pole. He’s on the inside, moving easily and getting his first quarter in: 23.37. ‘Rising star TDN‘and GSP Doppelganger (Into Mischief) was drafted in the second minute, right from the flank and out as Hopper threw down half in: 46.74, still moving smoothly. Abel Cedillo ignited him in the long haul, leaving the Doppelganger far behind, and the dark gulf was clear to win 5 1/4 of the time while teammates settled Tall Linkion (Link) passed Doppelganger late. Hopper gives the impression that he’s out in the open for a morning breeze, making it all seem as if he’s dominating the field.
“I saw Juan [Hernandez] ask [High Connection] It was about 3:30 to start the argument and the Doppelganger was moving at the same time, but Hopper was just flying at the front of the car, so I had a pretty good feeling,” said McCarthy.
Owned by Lanni Bloodstock, Madaket Stables and SF Racing, Hopper made his Baffert debut on February 25 with a six-hair special maiden weight on this surface, bumped from the start and again. immediately after the three-eighth column. He did not reappear until May 7 after that troubled start, and he was then transferred to the McCarthy warehouse. After seven dribbles that day, he won by 2 1/4 lengths and scored 87 Beyer. Hopper in addition to Irridescence (SAf), a champion, and MG1SW in her hometown. She has traveled the world for major races, winning the Queen Elizabeth II G1 Audemars Piguet Cup of Hong Kong and reaching GI Beverly DS in the US, G1 Falmouth S. in the UK and G2 Haafhd Jebel Hatta in Dubai. Hopper was her first bet winner. It has not produced ponies in 2020 or 2021 after being bred with Noble Mission (GB) both times and last bred with Air Force Blue. Her stallion, the stallion Nureyev Caesour, has 16 bet winners from his daughters, including GI Jaipur S. 2020 winner Oleksandra (Aus) (Animal Kingdom), a stallion which beat the boys more than once.
