Via Knitting Ambrosio: John Ryder says he still hopes to play Canelo Alvarez next May on Cinco de Mayo.
‘Gorilla’ Ryder says he plans to fight from the inside with Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) and beat him at his own game.
He said he couldn’t fight Canelo at long range, using the style in & out that WBA lightweight champion Dmitry Bivol used to beat the Mexican star last May, because That’s not his style.
It will be interesting if Ryder plays better than Canelo on the inside as that is considered an area where the superstar is quite adept. Fighters like Gennadiy Golovkin don’t dare to fight Canelo because it would be too risky.
Given Ryder’s inner fighting ability, he may be superior to Canelo, as he hasn’t fought anyone who tries to fight inside him in a long time.
Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) won the WBO interim super-middleweight title on November 26 by stopping Zach Parker in the fifth round to put himself in pole position to challenge Canelo.
Ryder reveals strategy to defeat Canelo
“I know Eddie [Hearn] be the man to make this happen. He’s in touch with Saul Alvarez and Eddy Reynoso on a daily basis, I’m sure, so hopefully I’ll be the man in the opposite corner watching Cinco de Mayo over the weekend,” John Ryder told boxing societyI talk about hoping to challenge undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez for four belts in May 2023.
“I spoke to a baseball bat before, and people used it against me,” Ryder said when asked what he had to do to beat Canelo. “So no baseball bat.”
“I think you play with him in his own way. You fight him at close range,Ryder continued on his plan to defeat Canelo. “He is a great mid-ranger.
“[Dmitry] Bivol showed that you beat him in and out, but I’m not that type of fighter. So I work to my strengths,” Ryder said of the strategy to beat Canelo.
“I hope to be the man who shares the ring. I think it’s going to make a great fight, and I hope it’s me in the opposite corner,” Ryder said.o Boxing iD.
“Eddy Reynoso, he was the one who said so. They will tell you what they want to do.”
“I think there are negotiations going on at the moment. I believe Eddy Reynoso is quite comfortable with the fight,” Tony Sims told iFL TV about the Canelo vs. Ryder. “It’s just a place to stay.
“I think they are thinking of doing it in the UK. I think John will be Canelo’s next opponent.”
