Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper ‘in terrible condition’ over fears of ‘inflammation through the brain’ | News about Ant-Man & Art
Kate Garraway says her husband Derek Draper is in “terrible” condition after suffering the devastating impact of the coronavirus – but he can now say the words “I love you”.
The TV presenter said COVID affected her 54-year-old partner “from tip to toe” and he is still unable to fully communicate.
Draper, a former political consultant, To be seriously ill after contracting the virus in March 2020.

He returned home in April after more than a year in the hospital, where he spent several months in a coma, but continued to require round-the-clock care.
According to Mirror, Garraway tells about an episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories airing tonight that the coronavirus has “devastated” her husband.
“From the top of his head to the tips of his toes,” she said.
“His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure the inflammation went through the brain.
“He still can’t communicate, he still has problems with mobility.
“He’s basically in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive.”
Draper and Garraway have two children together
Garraway revealed Draper’s carers burst into tears after he said the words “hello” and “thank you” during a phone conversation with Morgan before her interview.
“It’s moments like that that make you realize he’s in it,” she said.
“And we had other guys – he would turn to me and say, ‘I love you.’
“He fought so hard to stay in this world and I will never give up on him. He will have his moments of clarity and it’s like he’s gone again.”
Garraway, who has two children with Draper, said her family’s ordeal made her feel as though she had stepped through “a furnace or fallen down a rabbit hole”.
“The world is in darkness and is really still looking for light at the end of the tunnel,” she added.
Garraway shares the story of Draper’s battle with the coronavirus in the documentary Finding Derek, won the National Television Award.
The Last Life Story of Piers Morgan airs at 8pm tonight on ITV.
