Paralympic champion Alex Zanardi discharged from hospital 18 months since June 2020 crash
Paralympic champion and former racer Alex Zanardi has left hospital following injuries in a motorcycle crash 18 months ago.
Former F1 driver and Champ Car champion Zanardi suffered a severe head injury in a collision with a truck during the Obiettivo Tricolore in June 2020. Since then he has experienced several races. surgery and receive care at a specialist facility in Padua, Italy.
On Monday, his wife confirmed he had been discharged from the hospital.
“An important step is that Alex was able to leave the hospital a few weeks ago and is now home with us,” she said in a statement. “We’ve waited a long time for this and are delighted that it’s doable now, even if there are still temporary occupants in the special clinics planned for the future to implement special rehabilitation measures in place.
“Rehabilitation continues to be a long process. A rehabilitation program led by physicians, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, and speech therapists has resulted in steady progress.
