Team Kambosos prefers Haney to Lomachenko

Hearn sometimes sounds like he’s going a bit too far when commenting on the type of fighting he believes is possible for his fighters. In this case, however, he might not be correct about Team Kambosos preferring Haney as their next man over Lomachenko.

The only reason Kambosos manager prefers Haney over George to Lomachenko is him totally beatable, and they clearly felt confident that he would beat Matchroom Boxing’s promoted boxer.

What we’ve seen from Lomachenko in his last two bouts against Richard Commey and Masayoshi Nakatani is a boxer on a different level than the Kambosos, and that won’t be a good match for the Australian.

“I don’t think George Kambosos or Devin Haney are afraid of Lomachenko, but I think they would rather fight Devin Haney in an undisputed fight than fight Lomachenko in a defensive one. [of his WBO 135-lb title].

It took a lot of effort for Eddie to try to get Team Kambosos into the fight with Haney for Lomachenko because it was clear that was the direction they were headed.

As Sean Jones pointed out, the Kambosos’ only chance of victory is to fight Haney at lightweight and hopefully he can take a decisive win in Australia.

If Kambosos faced Lomachenko, it would basically be a belt ceremony because he has NO chance of beating the two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine.

Hearn wants Tank to fight non-PBCs

It seems that Hearn doesn’t realize the overall goal of Mayweather Promotions when it comes to what they want from Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis.

First, Mayweather Promotions doesn’t want Tank to lose because he’s making good money for them.

Gervonta is like an oil well that is faithfully pumping out oil and make the company that owns it rich.

Second, the only way that Tanks can continue to produce money for the Mayweather Promotion without becoming ‘dry oil well’ is for them to continue to confront him carefully against a beatable opponent.

If Mayweather’s promotions suddenly change the way he plays against Tanks, he’ll definitely start to lose and the gold he’s bringing back to us will soon be gone.

He will be an oil well in the fight, and for that reason, Mayweather Promotion will counter that natural process for as long as possible by pairing him up with a strict in-house opponent like Rolando’ Rolly’ Romero.

“From our perspective, I knew it was a paycheck, but we turned Kambosos against [Teofimo] Lopez, and we played Haney against Jojo Diaz,” Hearn said. “We showed great battles in that division.

“The bigger problem is if Tank [Davis] still in that PBC mindset. I know he’s not leaving PBC, but if you keep that mindset, ‘I’m going to fight insiders, really the only fight for the next Tank is Rolly Romero.

“I’m not saying it was a terrible fight, but if we pit Haney against the Kambosos, and Ryan Garcia is fighting Isaac Cruz or whoever, there will be bigger fights in the squad.

“So hopefully Tank and those guys can look a little outside the box to create some great teamfights. I know there’s been a lot of talk about how many tank fights Cruz bought. I don’t really care. What I do know is that Tank against Ryan Garcia buys a million or buys 800,000.

“So sometimes we can’t be naive enough to say, ‘He’s a pay-per-view.’ If he buys 100,000 or whatever that number is, why don’t you want to build a warrior that costs 800,000 or 1 million? The only way to make those purchases is to fight PBC.

“That’s not to say it can’t be on FOX, or that it can’t be on Showtime, but you have to think it through so your opponent can pull off those big battles,” Hearn said.

Hearn and the other promoters would be in vain to expect Mayweather Promotions to change the way they mix with Gervonta in hopes that they could set up fights with him because that’s not going to happen.

Mayweather Promotions has shown their cards on how they plan to schedule their fight against Gervonta, and they’re noting a change to that pattern now that he’s nearing 30.
