Practical Joke Filly Professional for Pletcher; Named ‘Rising Star’
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Todd Pletcher were represented by the participating GI Coaching Club on Saturday, winner of American Oaks, Nest (Curlin). Kaling (Realistic jokes) had a promising and professional debut worthy of a ‘Rising star TDN’ nod.
Off 3-1 with an upbeat tab displayed, the $220,000 KEESEP showed good early airspeed for an early lead on the inside. Rarify (Evenly), half-brother to a championship sprinter worth $750,000 Runhappy (Super Saver), split the horse and pull hard forward, but Kaling and racer Flavien Prat still have plenty of content to let that person go and post one: 22.08 opening quarter. Random (Nyquist), a $420,000 acquisition itself, moved up to do the dirty work as Kaling was behind Rarify. Kaling bounced back one:45.90 to go get the chalk, and she strode well from there to kick 2 3/4 the length while also stopping the clock at 1:12.69 – a time compared with favorable timing compared to colt Blazing Sevens (Good magic) own ‘Rising Star’-Learning performance in 1:13.34 to start card. Randomly held for Tuesday.
The winner was the MGSP dam’s half-sister of GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Summerly (Summer Squall). Her GSW third dam placed second in the 1988 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Kaling has a half-brother with West Bank and a pony.
