Ryan Garcia Consideration Joke: Apple juice and sparkling water disguised as beer
Ryan Garcia revealed that the beer he drank on the scale during Friday's weigh-in was actually apple juice and sparkling water during his fight with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney. Fans were surprised to see Ryan seemingly down an entire beer while on the scale, but it was just a scammer's antics.
Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has been enticing people throughout the promotion for his bout with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney, and Friday's weigh-in was no exception.
The truth behind “Beer”
“HEHE apple juice and sparkling water,” said Ryan Garcia above Xrevealed what he drank on the scale during his weigh-in on Friday.
Ryan lost 3.2 lbs, reaching 143.2 lbs, and he had to give up $1.5 million of his purse to Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) for their bet. Garcia sees losing money as no big deal, but it probably won't if he wins tonight.
Promoter Eddie Hearn Comments on Garcia's Conduct
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “The whole thing has been on the mind from the start, but expect the surprise tomorrow night.” Country Box on Ryan Garcia's style in promoting his fight with Devin Haney.
British promoter Hearn was also fooled by Ryan, showing that he knows nothing about the guy. If Hearn had studied Ryan closely from day one, he would have known that he was generating excitement with his fight in a Jake Paul-esque fashion.
“Something will happen tomorrow night. Maybe Ryan won't leave the locker room,” Hearn said. “Maybe he came out like a lunatic and hurt Devin. Maybe he bit Devin. Maybe he left the room during the fight.
“Maybe he doesn't have mas on his stool. The last situation is probably the one that could happen, but he would be dangerous. All the characteristics that he has [speed, power, size and killer instinct] still in the same place. But I see a child in pain, I have to be honest with you.”
Has Hearn lost contact?
Hearn seems like an old-fashioned person who doesn't understand younger people about his job very well. You probably have to be an American from the West Coast to understand Ryan's personality. That's the only thing I can think of why Hearn is so stupid.
“I don't think the people around him felt comfortable with his behavior,” Hearn said. “But you can't pull people out of the fight. Anything can happen tomorrow night. He can win. He's crazy. That is the reality of the situation.
“He gained over 3 1/2 lbs in a world championship fight. Think about it. It is not good. It lacks professionalism,” Hearn said of Ryan.
If Hearn understands that Ryan doesn't value world titles and is only focused on winning, then he'll understand why him being overweight isn't a big deal.
Ryan is NOT interested in WBC jewelry. That thing was just a useless medal, and he didn't want to be stuck paying the sanctioning body if he won the WBC title.
It's a waste of money to hold a title, and the belt holder is stuck defending it against mandatory challengers who often bring nothing to the table.
