If you don’t spend the weekend watching — or heaven forbid, attend — every year Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, Seth Meyers gave you even more Monday night in his latest “A Closer Look” segment.
“The real feeling is that wherever you look these days, the world is chasing the whims of people who are completely insane,” Midnight server has started. Yes, he’s talking about Vladimir Putin, but also Marjorie Taylor Greene, Mike Lindell and Donald Trump.
In addition to attending the white nationalist alternative to the CPAC, Congresswoman Greene also “did a really gritty interview where she defended her effort to help Trump overturn the election.” elected on January 6 and doubled down on the Big Lie that the election was stolen, while essentially admitting she had no proof. ”
Speaking to the ultra-conservative RSBN network from CPAC, Greene stated, “I am proud to protest on January 6. I will protest again today, because I know for a fact that there are too many mistakes. in that election and I believe it was stolen. Do I know how? No, I don’t know how.”
“Don’t let that stop you!” Meyers hit back, comparing the Republican congresswoman to someone around the zoo who admitted he didn’t “know how” to raise a venomous cobra.
Then there’s the CEO of MyPillow Lindell, who “admits he really doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about” when CBS News’ Robert Costa ask him a simple question about his infamous papers give it to Trump with the words “martial law” displayed in front of the camera. Instead of answering, Lindell engaged in an all-out melee, prompting CPAC attendees to chant “traitor” at the reporter in unison.
“First, who buys a pillow from a man who clearly never sleeps?” Meyers asked before calling him bullshit about Lindell’s evasive behavior and joked that he had “never heard a less impressive song”.
And finally, the host went to Trump, who led the conference and doubled describes Putin as a “genius” for invading Ukraine while calling NATO leaders “the intelligent opposite.” He then imagines Putin wondering, “You mean I can take over an entire country and they’ll punish me? You mean they’re not going to beat us to pieces, at least psychologically? “
“There’s nothing funnier than having a person say ‘you’re not smart’ and then the best they can come up with to describe the opposite of smart is the words ‘opposite of smart'”, Meyers said. “Also, what the hell are you talking about, ‘psychologically blowing Putin away?’ What do you want us to do? Take him up high and watch The Dark Side of the Moon sync up Wizard of Oz? ”
