Titles by Faucheux, Graham, Brittlyn Lock Up Fair Grounds
Evelyn Benoit’s Ron Faucheux, James Graham and Brittlyn Stable locked the titles for top coach, jockey and owner, respectively, at the Fair Grounds, where the 2021-2022 meeting ends on Sunday. Sunday, March 27.
A Louisiana native, Faucheux won his second consecutive coaching championship at the New Orleans football arena, sending out 43 winners, more than the total of 10 Eclipse winners Brad Cox. Faucheux won three shares at the meeting.
James Graham won 72 races in the meeting to become the equestrian champion for the third consecutive season and fourth overall. Mitchell Murrill, who took his 1,000th career win in February, brought in a total of 62 winners to take second place.
Benoit’s Brittlyn Stables was represented by no less than 22 winners at the meeting with a win rate of 33%, all handpicked by Star Guitar. It was the first top owner title for Brittlyn. Chester Thomas’s Allied Racing Stable is second with 14 wins.
The devastation caused by Hurricane Ida (late August/early September) posed many challenges for racing officials, but, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, business remained solid. thanks to great support from both horsemen and bettors.
“The warehouse area, parts of the facility that were damaged, and the loss of the yard panel due to Hurricane Ida that led to our meeting presented some challenges, but we are New Orleans and we are resilient,” said Racing Fair Grounds Senior Director Jason Boulet.
