Two huge video game packages raise more than 12 million dollars for Ukraine
Independent digital storefront Itch.io raised over $6 million through its recently concluded Bundle for Ukraine charity package. While, Similar large collection of games and comics by Humble Bundle also raised over $6 million, with just six days left before it closes. That’s a huge amount of money, all of which will aid those who are suffering during Russia’s appalling invasion of Ukraine.
The first pack released online was created by Necrosoft Games Director Brandon Sheffield. This bundle is available on Itch.io starting March 7th and collects almost 1,000 games into a single large bundle. And people can get all of those games — worth an estimated $6,500 — for as little as $10. A pretty good deal, and for a good reason, since all the fundraising goes through. Bundle for Ukraine is both geared towards supporting two groups: the International Medical Corps and the Children’s Voices.
Initially, this package had a relatively small goal of $100,000. That goal was quickly broken, and in just 24 hours, the indie pack had raised just over $1.5 million. It ended yesterday, reaching a total of $6,370,557.
While, other The pack, this one from the Humble Bundle, has also been organized and launched to help provide much-needed support to Ukraine during the ongoing and deadly invasion. Like the Itch pack, it contains a large number of games — almost 100 — including titles like Back 4 Blood, Fable, Metro Exodus, Quantum Break, PGA Tour 2K21, Kerbal Space Progam, and Lost memory.
As I am writing this article, package has passed 6 million dollars. Considering the incredible selection of games on offer, and the fact that the whole thing is only $40, I doubt that by the time this bundle ends in a week it will be over $6 million. significantly.
Add both and that’s it 12 million dollars in charity! (And as I just mentioned, The Humble Bundle will likely raise that number even more next week.)
I’m going, illegalRussia’s invasion of Ukraine has resulted in thousands of deaths, many of whom had to flee the country when their homes and towns were bombed by rockets. As a result, many countries, including the United States, has put pressure on Russia and Putin through economic sanctions. And as the invasion continues, many private companies are also pulling their businesses out of Russia.
These massively discounted charity packages have quickly become a popular way for people to get together and help support others on a massive scale. Back in 2020, a similar massive game pack was made available online as part of the Itch .’s Racial Justice and Equality Package. That charity collection finally made an impression $8,149,814 for two organizations: The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Community Guarantee Fund.
