UberEats Delivering Food to Space: Here’s What They Delivered
What could be better than getting delicious food delivered to your door?! Right? Trust us, you’re not alone, even astronauts in space love getting their food from their favorite food joints. You read it right! The astronauts, residing in the International Space Station (ISS), recently enjoyed some delicious pork and chicken dishes, thanks to UberEats. The food tech giant on December 11, 2021 made their first food delivery to space. UberEats has partnered with Japanese businessman Yusaku Maezawa to “hand-deliver ready-to-eat Japanese canned food to astronauts at the International Space Station,” reads a statement issued by the Food-Tech giant show. For the non-inverters, Yusaku Maezawa is a visiting space tourist to the ISS who is also funding the SpaceX 2023 mission that will take commercial passengers to a journey around the moon.
According to an official UberEats press release, “Delivery was made on December 11 at 9:40 a.m. EST after having traveled 248 miles and 8 hours and 34 minutes since Maezawa left Earth.” The dishes delivered include boiled mackerel with miso sauce, braised chicken with bamboo shoots, braised pork and more. According to UberEats, it’s a holiday that welcomes astronauts away from their “standard space food.”
“This delivery marks a huge leap forward for Uber as we are committed to helping people go anywhere and get anything – now, including space,” the press release said. more.
UberEats Japan shared one more glimpse from the ISS on Twitter, and wrote along (in Japanese), “Uber Eats delivery continues to grow. One after another to places that are not currently delivering.”
