Xbox is outselling PS5 in Japan as Sony struggles with supply issues.
Based on Famitsu, the Xbox Series of consoles sold 6,695 units between June 13 and 19, surpassing the PS5’s 3,035 sales. While Sony is still outpacing Xbox in terms of sales in Japan, this marks the second time this generation has had weekly sales that significantly benefit Microsoft.

Last month, Famitsu reported Microsoft sold 6,120 Xbox Series S consoles in the week of May 9-15, with an additional 105 Xbox Series X consoles also sold during the same period. The PS5 only shipped 2,963 units, which is far behind.
It is thought that Sony is currently short of PS5 due to supply chain issues. IGN Japan employees report that it’s simply harder to find a PS5 in Japan and that Xbox consoles – especially the Series S – are much easier to buy.

This is an important milestone for Microsoft, which has a history of struggling in Japan. In a word, last year’s Xbox Series X/S was lucky to sell 3,000 units, but with supply chain issues affecting Sony’s PS5 sales, Xbox is capitalizing on its absence on the market. market.
But unfortunately, this could be a temporary boost for Microsoft. By comparison, the PS5 sold 12,440 units the week before this new milestone, with the Xbox Series console only managing to sell a total of 6,242 units. That’s not necessarily a sign that Xbox is completely turning the tide in the region.
It looks like Xbox is benefiting from Sony’s supply chain problems, albeit temporarily. These figures do not mean that Sony is losing ground in the region, as lifetime sales indicate a reasonable uptake of the PS5 in Japan. Since its launch, Famitsu . Report The PS5 sold 1.69 million consoles, while the Xbox Series sold only 232,000 – a stark difference. And don’t even bother comparing these to the Nintendo Switch, which shipped a whopping 24.7 million units across all versions.
