Altania Tops The Tattersalls October Online Sale
Manufacturer of black type Altania (Street Cry {Ire}) (lot 13) topped the Tattersalls Online October Sale on Friday. Sold for 80,000gns to Kevin Blake Bloodstock, the chestnut is carrying an Australian pony (GB). Powered by Gary Duffy’s Irish Emerald, Althania was placed on Maksud’s (GB) August roster (Golden Horn {GB}) and she’s also half-sister to the Class winner. I was twice Gabby’s Golden Gal (Medaglia d’Oro), as well as second place winner Always A Princess (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}). The trio outside Gabriellina Giof (GB) (Ashkalani {Ire}) won the list.
Kevin Blake, who purchased the mare on behalf of Golden Farm Bloodstock, said, “Althania jumped off the page when the sales catalog came out. It is not easy to buy mares that have proven to produce great results on the racecourse as well as in the sales round, so I think she ticked all the boxes that apply. I have also been monitoring her son Maksud’s progress all year. He is a horse that I like very much and think will get even better next year.
“She was bought for an investment fund that I manage called Golden Farm Bloodstock. We look forward to seeing what she produces by Australia in the spring and to choose her next mate. She’s a real stunner, so we’ll have plenty to choose from. There’s a lot of action in the family, so hopefully she’ll prove to be a good investment in full time. “
Cavalier Bloodstock grabs Irish Emerald’s Lake of Hope (Ire) (Shamardal) (lot 21) for 38,000gns after the sale. This is the second high of the day and the 8-year-old is on the pony (GB) chart. Her dam, mare Nashwan Nadia (GB), won the G1 Prix Saint-Alary and finished second in the G1 Prix de Diane.
Malbay Madness (Ire) (Wings Of Eagles {Fr}) (lot 37) is the third favorite of the day, generating 30,000 grams for the Madness In Mind Partnership. Signed by Lackendarra Stables, the juvenile training horse has one win and counts Search for the Moon (GB) (Rainbow Mission) as his second dam. Eva Luna (Allegedly), queen of G1 St Leger S. hero Brian Boru (GB) (Sadler’s Wells) et. al, is the third dam of Malbay Madness.
At the end of the trading day, 24 lots yielded 269,100 grams. The average is 11,178gns and the average is 4,000gns.
