Via Charles Brun: Dillian Whyte still seems frustrated about not winning a title as Deontay Wilder held the WBC heavyweight belt from 2015 to 2020.
Now it’s all water under the bridge. Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) no longer holds the WBC belt, and Whyte has been knocked out in the last two-thirds of his fights.
To say that Whyte’s career is dying would be a fair statement. Therefore, ‘Body Snatcher’ Whyte decided to face American heavyweight Jermaine Franklin on November 26 instead of a highly regarded candidate like Joe Joyce, Frank Sanchez or Filip Hrgovic.
“I heard that Wilder still doesn’t want to fight me. He’s the biggest cheater in all of sports, never mind boxing,” Dillian Whyte told Daily mail.
“Who hasn’t fought his number one contender for more than four years and then declare him the greatest of all time? He hasn’t really beaten anyone yet. He’s just a cowardly scammer,” Whyte said.
As you can see here, Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) is having a hard time letting go of the past. So instead of forgetting about being ignored by Wilder for years, Whyte is replaying the movie in his head and sounding very, very bitter about it.
Instead of Whyte worrying about not winning the title against Wilder, he should be worried about his recent knockout losses to Tyson Fury and 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin.
Whyte was the #1 ranked contender with the WBC for the last four years of Wilder’s title reign, but interestingly he was never made mandatory as a result of his decision. DO NOT face Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz when the World Boxing Council ordered the Whyte-Ortiz fight.
It’s a bit odd as to why Whyte chose not to go head-to-head with Ortiz for the required spot to challenge Wilder for his WBC crown. At the time, many boxing fans felt Whyte lacked confidence when facing dangerous Cuban talent, Ortiz.
So Whyte was ignored by Wilder, and rightfully so, because he was unwilling to win his title and wanted it to be given to him based on his being ranked 1 with WBC.
“This guy is an actor. Everything he does is an action. Even pretended to cry at the press conference the day beforeI was just like, “You’re just making me sick, you son of a bitch,” Whyte said.
