The Parliamentary Unit in Rajasthan on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution, calling for the appointment of Rahul Gandhi as party chairman.
The resolution to have Rahul Gandhi as Chief of Parliament was proposed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who was seen as a strong candidate for the post, during a meeting held in Jaipur.
Amid the growing chorus of “Rahul Gandhi is the party chief” among a section of Parliament, Rajasthan became the first state to pass such a resolution in Gandhi’s favor.
After the meeting, Rajasthan Minister Pratap Singh Khachariya said that a resolution was also passed allowing the incoming party chief to appoint the Rajasthan National Assembly speaker and Indian Parliament Committee (AICC) members from the state.
“Parliament is one and the resolution in favor of Rahul Gandhi has been delivered by the Prime Minister himself. Everyone raise their hands and let the Speaker of the National Assembly appoint the new head of state and AICC members from the state,” he said.
