Audi previewed the mid-life update for the phone e-tron SUV at the E-Cannonball rally event in Hamburg, Germany.
The German automaker does not hide this fact e-tron is a prototype, with “specially designed camouflage” and large, stylized stickers that read as “prototype”.
At the front of this most recent e-tron prototype, there’s a redesigned grille area with a mesh-like design, as well as a new front bumper with reworked windscreens.
Subtle design tweaks continue with the new rear bumper and diffuser.
While the headlights and taillights appear to be the same as on the current e-tron, Audi says the prototype features “new lighting enhancements”.
It’s unclear what the innovations are called for at this stage, but one option could be its internal combustion-like digital OLED tail lights. Q5 sibling.
Autocar Reportedly November 2021, bigger changes will be made, with the e-tron tipped to feature a larger battery, updated avionics and a redesigned engine.
These updates can increase the range by up to 600km per WLTP test, far exceeding the 336km-436km claims of the current e-tron range.
These changes should address major criticisms of the current e-tron and help keep it relevant until its replacement – potentially. Q8 e-tron – came around mid-decade.
There have also been rumors from Europe suggesting the updated e-tron could be renamed the Q8 e-tron before its successor launches to further clarify its place in the electric car lineup. entirely Audi, although Audi still refers to this prototype as just the e-tron.
The Q5 e-tron also uses the MEB platform, however this is a model exclusively for the Chinese market.
