Best Fashion Award at The Game 2022
Two days ago, in the days leading up to The Game Awards 2022, I wrote about how Extremely inconsistent fashion at the event is indicative of the industry’s identity crisis. Things quickly got out of hand.
The speech engine kicks in and begins to spin at incredibly fast speeds: Nintendo President Doug Bowser tweeted to me, Xbox President Phil Spencer responded to this thread and confirmed that he now knows what Mike Mercante wears to get his bagelpeople were pondering the fit of “t-shirt with blazer,” and the word “drip” was learned and then overused by half the industry.
Other publications have written about discoursethe developers weighed in, and the lead up to the Game Awards became less speculative about which games would win GOTY (disclosure: it’s Elen’s ring) and more on whether Josef Fares would wear a tight t-shirt again (disclosure: he didn’t).
In the end, it seems my appeal worked. Many event attendees told me via DM that I was embarrassed that attendees dressed better. The presenters and talent on stage at this year’s Game Awards were mostly more dressed up than in previous years, and even Phil Spencer seemed to dress a little more formally.
The Game Awards are an opportunity to have fun with fashion and learn about themes that often pop up in the games the night celebrates, so it was great to see some people actually do it last night. That’s why I decided to highlight the best dressed attendees and honorees at gaming’s biggest night out. You all did a great job, dear friends.
