British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that 90% of ICUs do not have booster push
London:
On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said about 90% of coronavirus patients in intensive care units do not receive booster injections.
Speaking at a vaccination centre, Prime Minister Johnson urged people to get their “important” booster shot, saying “the vast majority” of people currently in intensive care in our hospitals have not been booster injection.
“I’ve spoken to doctors who say the number is running up to 90% of those in non-boosted intensive care,” the prime minister added in Milton Keynes in central England.
He warned that unvaccinated people are eight times more likely to be hospitalized.
The UK has been hit by a sharp rise in the new variant of Omicron, with England and Wales reporting record numbers of cases on Tuesday. The UK is one of the worst affected countries in Europe with a death toll of 148,021 people.
So far more than 32.5 million people have had booster injections in the UK, Prime Minister Johnson said.
He appealed to the 2.4 million people who had two crashes more than six months ago but no push continues.
While Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales restricted social contact and closed nightclubs ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, Prime Minister Johnson justified his decision not to do so in Britain.
The heavy use of boosters in the UK, he said, “is allowing us to celebrate the New Year in our cautious way”.
Prime Minister Johnson said: The Government has been more restrictive because “we can see data for relatively mild levels of Omicron”.
He also highlighted “the very, very obvious effect of getting those jabs, especially the boosters”, saying “that’s what makes a huge difference”.
Prime Minister Johnson has set a goal of delivering a health promotion program for all adults by the end of the year. “What we need to do now is actually get that work done,” he said Wednesday.
