Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone Sequel New Confirmed For This Year
Today, one Call of Duty Community Update gave fans a look at Part 2 of Warzone and more epic releases to come. Specifically, the annual title for the fall, has been confirmed to be the rumored sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.
The blog post says the upcoming sequel, as well as the new Warzone experience, will be designed together using a new engine “from the ground up”. That’s right, Warzone is getting a successor, with the post adding that it will be a “big evolution of Battle Royale” and will feature a new battlefield and sandbox mode. Infinity Ward topped both titles.
Meanwhile, Season Two of Call of Duty: Vanguard/Warzone begins February 14th. For those who like to spend Valentine’s Day improving their K/D ratio and surviving the hangover, you can expect over 30 updates designed to make the experience more welcoming to newcomers and less frustrating overall, including:
- Improvements in all forms of movement: vehicle handling, parachute deployment at lower vertical heights, increased player overlay height, and crash fixes for both vehicles and players.
- The Gas Mask animation no longer interrupts the Controller aiming down vision.
- When the Armor Plate is installed, it will refill one armor plate before filling the damaged armor plate.
- Streaming and performance issues, including frozen Buy Station, distorted graphics and voice chat connections, on all platforms.
- Specific Operator skins will be invisible at certain distances.
- Blockages for Modern Warfare Multiplayer, tied to Warzone’s launcher.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched in October 2019 and served as a reboot for spin-offs that took the franchise into the stratosphere. It featured a remake of Captain Price along with a new story and improved multiplayer that was well received by players and critics (including a 8.75 / 10 points from us). Call of Duty: Warzone builds on the success of Modern Warfare while also fitting in with its theme, so it’s fitting that the new Warzone will follow in the original’s footsteps.
The future of Call of Duty has been a big talk lately with Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft recently reiterated its plan keep franchises diverse even after the current contract with Sony expires. It will be a while before we see full forks of Call of Duty as an Xbox-owned franchise, but things don’t look set to change for the foreseeable future.
