Healthy Start in Lawrence County
You’ve probably heard the saying “It takes a village to raise a child”. But who helps the mother before giving birth?
Born and raised in Bedford, Jodee Rhorer, BSN, RNC, has a deep connection to the community in which she raised her children. And after more than 30 years as an obstetric nurse, she has touched countless families with her care.
“I live in this community and love it,” she said. And during her time as a nurse, Rhorer has noticed that many families don’t have the resources to access recommended prenatal health care.
“Maybe they don’t have gas or even a car to get to their prenatal care appointments,” she explains. “I have learned a lot over the years to help connect these patients with the community resources they need.”
And that knowledge ties in wonderfully with Rhorer’s new role as obstetric outreach program manager at IU Health Bedford.
This free program is called Healthy Beginnings and focuses on helping pregnant people in Lawrence County get the care they need to have a healthy pregnancy.
Services include help with navigating prenatal care and available resources. Rhorer is also here to help educate patients about pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn care.
