IndiGo appoints Pieter Elbers as CEO, Ronojoy Dutta retires

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of low-cost airline IndiGo, on Wednesday appointed Pieter Elbers as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Elbers will join from October 1, 2022, the airline said in an announcement to exchanges.
“He succeeds 71-year-old Ronojoy Dutta, who decided to retire on September 30, 2022, after guiding IndiGo through a tumultuous Covid-19 period,” it added.
Rahul Bhatia, CEO of IndiGo said, “The Board of Directors and I would like to thank Rono for effectively leading our business for nearly four years with the fortitude through the turbulent times. in the history of airlines and global aviation. “
Since 2014, Mr. Elbers, 52, has been the Chairman and CEO of Royal Dutch Airlines KLM. He is also a member of the executive committee of Air France Group – KLM, IndiGo said.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Economics.

In early February this year, IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal stepped down from the board of parent company InterGlobe Aviation, saying he would gradually reduce the airline’s share capital over the next five years.
Mr. Gangwal and his related entities own about 37% stake in this company. Mr. Bhatia and related entities own about 38% of the shares of InterGlobe Aviation.
