More than 3 Crore Income Tax Returns filed by the last day of the next December 31
More than three crore taxpayers have filed income tax returns (ITR) for the 2021-22 assessment year on the new web portal of the income tax department as of December 3, 2021.
In fact, the number of ITRs filed per day is more than 40,000 and increasing daily as the last day to apply i.e. 31st December 2021 is approaching.
According to official sources, ITR filing has increased to 3.03 crore for the 2021-22 audit year with 58.98% of these being ITR1 (1.78 crore), 8% being ITR2 (24.42). lakh), 8.7% are ITR3 (26.58 lakh), while 23.12% of these are ITR4 (70.07 lakh), ITR5 (2.14 lakh), ITR6 (0.91 lakh) and ITR7 (0.15 lakh) combined.
The official sources added that more than 50% of these declarations were filed with the help of the online ITR form on the portal.
Electronic verification via Aadhaar one-time passwords (OTP) and other methods is crucial for the income tax department to initiate ITR processing and refunds, if applicable. It is encouraging to note that 2.69 crore of profits were electronically verified, of which more than 2.28 crore was through Aadhaar-based OTP, a statement by the finance ministry said.
In November, 48% of verified ITRs 1, 2 and 4 were processed on the same day. Among the verified ITRs, more than 2.11 crore ITRs have been processed and over 82.80 lakh refunds for AY 2021-22 have been issued.
The department has advised taxpayers who have not yet filed their tax returns to do so as soon as possible to avoid a last-minute rush.
