Red Bull cancels contract with junior driver Juri Vips after racial slurs
Team Red Bull has canceled junior driver Juri Vips after he used racial slurs during a live stream, the team announced on Tuesday.
Vips, who apologized for his behavior, was initially suspended on June 22 while the team carried out an investigation, which has now been concluded.
“Following an investigation into an online incident involving Juri Vips, Oracle Red Bull Racing has terminated Juri’s contract as their test and reserve driver. The team does not tolerate any form of injury. any form of racism,” Red Bull said in a statement.
Vips has been racing in Formula Two with UK-based Hitech Grand Prix and last month drove a Red Bull Formula One car during the first Friday practice at the Spanish Grand Prix.
“I would like to sincerely apologize for the offensive language used during a live game stream earlier today,” Vips wrote on Instagram last week.
“This language is completely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles I hold dear. I deeply regret my actions and this is not the example I wanted.”
