Toyota cuts production again | CarExpert

Toyota Motor Corp. is again forced to cut its global production plan, this time for the next three months, largely due to continued parts shortages.

The company said this week it will have to cut output planned for the current three-month period by at least 150,000 vehicles.

The automaker’s production forecast for the fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) remains unchanged at approximately 9.7 million vehicles, compared with 10,063,895 vehicles in the previous fiscal year – that is. down 3.6%.

But each production cut makes that goal harder to achieve.

“In last month’s production planWe have announced that the average monthly production plan for the next three months (September to November) will be around 900,000 units,” the company said.

“However, due to the effects of semiconductor shortages, the projected global production output for October is expected to be around 800,000 units (about 250,000 units in Japan and 550,000 units overseas). .

“The global production plan from October to December is expected to average around 850,000 units per month.

“This plan is based on careful validation of the parts supply as well as the staffing structure and facility capabilities of our suppliers.”

Even assuming September hits the 900,000-unit target, that means the October and November plan remains below the 150,000-unit forecast.

That is another potential difficulty for Toyota Australia as they battle to resolve the backlog, with waiting lists on many key models such as the RAV4 hybrid and LandCruiser stretching over 12 months due to high demand for all customers. age.

TMC also said it will stop production at 10 lines across 7 factories in Japan in October, affecting models such as the RAV4, Camry, Prado and GR Yaris. There are also Lexus NX, LS, ES, RX and UX.

Toyota Motor Corp. has in fact cut its output for the whole year – having posted more than 20 production bulletins and subsequent revisions since January. The combination of COVID in its supply chain and ongoing difficulties in the supply of semiconductors were the main reasons.

Toyota Australia dealers affected by persistent chronic shortages talking to some customers to prepare for years of waiting on core models including the LandCruiser, RAV4 and Camry.

Toyota Australia acknowledged the long wait but said there isn’t really a one-size-fits-all timeframe, because each dealer has different pipelines.

“Demand for new vehicles is at an unprecedented level. In Australia, to support strong demand, Toyota Australia has been working closely with our global manufacturing teams to secure as many vehicles for our market as possible,” it said recently.

“Lead time varies depending on the model, variant, and specification requirements of each customer. The RAV4 Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, LandCruiser 70 and LandCruiser 300 are in particularly high demand and now have longer wait times.

“Due to the increasing nature of this situation, it is best for Toyota dealers to continue to provide customers with updates on delivery timeframes for individual orders.”

Toyota Australia has also removed customer web order tracking from its website, instead requiring customers to contact their “sales agent” for up-to-date information.
