UP 2022 Election: “Century in the first 2 phases, the next 2 will also win”: Akhilesh Yadav To NDTV

Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav said his party had “gained a century” in the first two phases, as Uttar Pradesh votes in third phase today. Fifty-nine seats across 16 counties will go to the polls today, of which SP won only nine in 2017. BJP won 49 seats.

“We have achieved a Century in the first two phases and even in the next two phases the Samajwadi Party coalition will be ahead of the others,” said Akhilesh Yadav, seen as a major challenger to the BJP. ruling of the state, told NDTV today after casting the vote in Jaswantnagar.

Asserting that this period will see the maximum number of votes cast, he said most of the seats going to the polls this time are from Bundelkhand.

“The maximum number of unemployed youth here. The maximum number of workers returning during the shutdown and suffering, is here. Farmers’ incomes have not doubled. From Bundelkhand to here, BJP has stopped growing, fighting for jobs,” he added.

In the fight for Uttar Pradesh – supposedly a semi-final before the 2024 general election – 113 seats went to the polls in the first two phases. Part of them came from the key western region of Uttar Pradesh, the epicenter of the farmers’ protests, where Mr Yadav has vowed not to condone the ruling party.

The Samajwadi leader has supplemented his pro-Muslim-Yadav base with small parties commanding a group of followers of Other Backward Classes. His key ally is Jat leader Jayant Chaudhary, with whom Rashtriya Lok Dal is said to have influenced more than 30 seats of western Uttar Pradesh.

First, Mr. Yadav is running for this state election. The seat is Karhal – part of Mr Mainpuri’s family stage – and is currently represented by party strongman Sobaran Singh Yadav, who won the seat from the BJP in 2002 and later switched to the Samajwadi Party.

Regarding his opponent, BJP Union Minister SP Singh Baghel Mr. Yadav said, “SP Singh Baghel is a Union minister. He handles the law department. What is the value of what he says? ?”

The minister, he said, was “promising the villagers that if he won, they could get a judge from their community.

While the BJP won 2017 with a sweeping mandate, this election is expected to be a referendum on the state government led by Yogi Adityanath, who has been criticized for its handle the second wave of Covid.
