Walmart Chesapeake Shooting Leaves Multiple Fatalities and Injuries, Virginia Cops Say
Accumulation Police say the shooting at a Walmart in Virginia on Tuesday night left several people dead and injured.
The Chesapeake Police Department confirmed the incident to The Daily Beast at the Walmart store, off Battlefield Avenue.
During a press conference, Chesapeake public information officer Leo Kosinski said the call to authorities was made at 10:12 p.m.
“We went inside and summed up a long story, for the next 30-45 minutes we could find many people killed and many injured,” Kosinski said.
Police said the gunman acted alone and is believed to be among those killed.
One person was found dead outside the building while the rest were inside. “Officers are still at the scene checking the building to make sure” that there was only one gunman, police said.
The shooting ended when the police arrived, the police did not fire a single bullet. Police will not determine whether the victim or the shooter was an employee.
A man who identified himself as a store employee at Walmart, Kevin Harper, posted a Facebook Live on Tuesday night after the shooting. He was seen standing outside the store as police cars surrounded it.
“However, it’s a myth, it’s the manager, one of the managers,” he said when he could hear sirens blaring behind him. Police would not confirm that detail at the time.
“I saw the brain,” one woman can be heard crying in the background of the video as he asks if she is okay.
“What the hell is going on in his head?”
Senator Louise Lucas of Virginia said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that America’s latest mass shooting took place at a Walmart in my county in Chesapeake, Virginia this evening. I will not rest until we find a solution to end the gun violence that has claimed so many lives in our country.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
