2023 Audi Q6 revealed in China
Audi’s biggest SUV is yet to be revealed, but it’s not expected to make an appearance here.
The Audi Q6 is a three-row crossover designed for the Chinese market and is unrelated to the upcoming Premium Platform Electric version. Q6 e-tron will most likely come here.
China Car News reports that it will share its platform with the Volkswagen Teramont/Atlas, which entered production for the first time in 2017.
It is expected to be revealed at the Beijing auto show in April, before making its debut in China in Q2 2022.
It measures 5099mm long, 2014mm wide and 1784mm tall on a 2980mm wheelbase, with the choice of a second bench or a captain’s seat.
Opposite, Audi Q7 – another large three-row SUV – measures 5063mm long, 1970mm wide and 1741mm tall on a 2999mm wheelbase.
It also weighs 2205kg. A Q7 45 TDI facility has a tare weight of 2400kg.
The Q6 has a classy exterior, with a long rear overhang and bright trim – witness the massive expansion of the metal trim on the D-pillar, blacked out over what appears to be an S line version.
Inside, the dashboard is in the traditional Audi style, avoiding the column-to-column displays common on luxury models in the Chinese market such as the new Lincoln Z and the Hongqi e-HS9.
However, there are still three screens, including a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen and a separate touchscreen for the climate functions.
China Car News reports the Q6 will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder called the EA888 Evo 4, available in two stages: one with 172kW and the other with 197kW.
The first is said to be available only with front-wheel drive, the latter with all-wheel drive.
The Q6 isn’t the only SUV from Audi developed specifically for China.
Last year, the brand Ingolstadt revealed Q5 e-tronan all-electric crossover based on the all-electric MEB architecture.
Both the Q5 e-tron and the Q6 are built by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture.
Audi China also sells a unique, long-wheelbase sedan version of the A7 called the A7L, along with the long wheelbase versions of the A3, A4, A6, Q2 and Q5.
