Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that he was surprised when Rahul Dravid took over as head coach of the Indian team considering how he has a young family at home. Dravid’s training time got off to a good start on Wednesday as Team India beat New Zealand by 5 catches in the first T20I of a three-match streak. “Actually, I was surprised to see Dravid do the same. There’s been a lot of talk about how happy he feels in the under-19 role. I’m not sure about his family life. but I’m sure he has a baby, so I was surprised he took it but like I said, the people I spoke to made sure they found the right person so they could have Dravid do it. that,” Ponting said on the Grade Podcast Cricketers.
Ponting also revealed that he was approached with the offer of Team India head coach, but he turned it down.
“I’ve had a couple of conversations with some people in the IPL about it (the head coach position.) The people I spoke to had a really hard time figuring out how to make it work. The first thing. I say I can. “Don’t give it a lot of time, that means I can’t train in IPL,” he added.
The former Australian captain is now the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Delhi’s capital city. His team has reached the knockout stages of the 2021 IPL season.
