Kia is poised to outsell Hyundai this year, but won’t gloat
Kia will outsell larger South Korean competitor – and major shareholder – Hyundai for the first time in this year’s Australian sales race.
However, Kia Australia CEO Damien Meredith insists there is no internal battle between brands for sales dominance.
Mr. Meredith told us: “We are of course very excited about it, the consistent growth that has come from the brand over a long period of time.
“We aim for market share and volume, but the honest truth is we don’t sit down and talk about how we beat Hyundai, Mitsubishi or Ford.
“Yes, we are ahead of where we intended,” he added.
Kia Australia’s sales by the end of November this year were 72,700 units, up 15%. That puts it ahead of Mitsubishi (72,064) and Hyundai (68,911).
Only Toyota (214,776) and Mazda (87,218) have taken the lead for this fast-growing Korean brand, which is predicted to stand on the podium for the first time.
Ten years agoKia’s market share in Australia (2.6 percent) is less than one-third of its major shareholder, Hyundai (8.5 percent).
